What is it doing: It is derived from the emollient ingredient squalene, which is a natural component of your skin’s sebum (oil). It is a wonderfully moisturizing ingredient as well as being a source of replenishing fatty acids and antioxidants in the skin. Note that because it’s highly saturated, squalane is more stable in the presence of air than less-saturated squalene and a better choice for acne-prone skin.
