28 June 2026
Discover why Pour Moi created National Climate-Smart Skin Awareness Day and how weather influences your skin every day.
Every June 28, we pause to recognize a simple truth: your skin doesn’t exist in isolation—it lives in constant dialogue with your environment.
Updated for the 5th National Climate-Smart Skin Awareness Day • June 28, 2026
Today, a growing body of scientific research continues to demonstrate that environmental factors—including heat, cold, humidity, dry air, pollution, altitude, and even the lack of sunlight—play an important role in skin barrier function, hydration, comfort, and resilience. Research published by the National Institutes of Health and in the journal Dermatologic Therapy continues to reinforce the important relationship between climate and skin health. While sunscreen remains essential, it is only one part of protecting healthy, resilient skin.
Over the past five years, what began as a new idea has grown into an annual public awareness initiative supported by skincare professionals, organizations such as the Society of Dermatology Nurse Practitioners, and consumers who recognize that healthy skin begins with understanding the environment around us.

Why June 28?
This date holds special significance in the scientific community.
On June 28, we honor Joseph Henry, the first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, whose leadership pioneered the first nationwide weather observation network. His work laid the foundation for the U.S. Weather Service, established in 1870, transforming how Americans understood and responded to weather.
Exactly a century later, on June 28, 1972, the world lost Prasanta Mahalanobis, a visionary statistician whose large-scale survey methods revolutionized research on health and the environment. His pioneering techniques enabled generations of scientists to study how external conditions affect human well-being.
Together, their legacies inspired us to choose June 28 as a day to honor scientific progress and advocate for awareness of the climate’s impact on skin health.
Five Years Later
Five years later, we’re encouraged to see the conversation around climate and skin health continuing to grow. Researchers, skincare professionals, and consumers increasingly recognize that healthy skin is influenced by far more than UV exposure alone.
We can’t control the weather, but we can make smarter decisions about how we care for our skin as our environment changes. That simple idea became the foundation of Climate-Smart® Skincare and has since led to 10 global patents, recognition as one of TIME’s Best Inventions, and growing awareness that skincare should adapt to the environment—not ask your skin to adapt alone.
Changing the Conversation
For decades, skincare advice focused on oiliness, dryness, sensitivity, or age. But emerging research makes it clear: climate is an equally powerful factor. Humidity, temperature shifts, UV exposure, and pollution all influence how your skin looks, feels, and functions every day.
Climate-Smart Skin Awareness Day is about empowering you to:
✅ Recognize the impact of your local environment.
✅ Adjust your skincare routine as conditions change.
✅ Protect your skin barrier to maintain resilience and radiance.
